Letter from the 2006-2007 Student Speaker
MD4 Final Speech Winner
Dear Lions Club Members
With the contest spanning the course of five (5) months and
(6) phases, it can be pretty stressful. In each phase of the competition, the
contestants would go against students who had also advanced so each phase would
get more difficult. I feel so fortunate to be the winner of all six (6) phases,
and the MD-4, California Champion.
Winning the contest gives me more confidence in my speaking abilities
and winning has helped me land a spot on the Pepperdine University Speech and
Debate Team.
The atmosphere in the competition was just amazing. The Lions Club
members that I would meet would offer words of support and The Peach Bowl Lions
Club would come to every phase of competition to cheer me on, no matter how far
away the competition was.
This year, I will be a freshman at Pepperdine University where I will be
majoring in Political Science with a minor in Spanish. After completing my
Bachelor's degree I hope to take a year off and join the Peace Corp. I would
like to attend Georgetown University and get the joint degree of law and a
Masters in business administration.
I would like to thank the Lions Club, Peach Bowl Lions and the Student
Speakers Foundation for all of the support and the fantastic scholarship
opportunities.
Sincerely,
Harveen Gill
